Links

General linking guidelines:

  • Link text should make sense when read by itself; using generic labels like "click here" and "more" without the use of a supplemental description is discouraged. (See Accessibility Link Text)
  • Redundant links, such as linking both the image and text, should not be used.
  • Link Target
    • When linking to other pages within lsu.edu, do not force links to open a new browser window or tab.
    • In some cases, it may be appropriate to open a link to an external site in a new browser window/tab.

When copying links from emails, please be aware that the URL will be encoded with LSU's Safelinks code. This code cannot be used on the website. To avoid transferring the code from an email to the webpage, use the following procedure:

  1. Copy the section of text that needs to be added to the webpage
  2. Paste as text-only
  3. Manually insert the link, using one of these methods:
    1. If the full URL is exposed in the email, you may copy the full URL and use Omni's "Insert/Edit" link function to create the hotspot.
    2. If the URL is not exposed, click the link and open it in a browser and copy the URL from the browser's location bar.
