Tim Slack, LSU professor of sociology, has co-authored a new book titled "Rural and Small-Town America: Context, Composition, and Complexities." The book paints a social scientific portrait of rural America and confronts common misunderstandings about rural people and places.

Joining the current 141 members of the Manship School Hall of Fame are the late Martin Johnson, Ph.D., former dean of the LSU Manship School; Gil LeBreton, retired sports journalist; Abram “Abe” McGull, founder, McGull Law Firm, and Springfield, Missouri City Council Member; and Wendy McMahon, President and Chief Executive Officer, CBS News and Stations and CBS Media Ventures.

-- LSU researchers hope to revolutionize chronic disease management by teaching an artificial intelligence engine to analyze protein interactions, which are crucial to understanding what causes illnesses.

An LSU researcher has discovered a potential treatment for the most malignant forms of cancer by fusing two proteins, one that slips past the tumor's defenses carrying a second protein to kill the tumor.

LSU has named Keena Arbuthnot, Vice President and Chief Data Officer, as Dean of the Pinkie Gordon Lane Graduate School, effective July 11.

Jay Grymes, chief meteorologist for WAFB-TV and interim Louisiana state climatologist since February, has been named the permanent state climatologist, effective Aug. 1.
