LSU Open Tue, 9/10; Preparing for Tropical Storm Francine

September 09, 2024

LSU will remain open Tuesday, September 10. The university is closely monitoring Tropical Storm Francine. The safety of the LSU community is paramount to us, and all decisions about the storm will be made with safety in mind. Updates related to the storm will be posted to LSU.edu, the @LSU social media channels, and the LSU mobile app and will be sent through the LSU emergency text message system and LSU email.

If the university closes for the storm, on-campus residence halls and apartments will remain open and LSU will continue to provide meals to on-campus residents. However, students will be asked to shelter in place during the worst of the storm, so it’s still a good idea to stock up on supplies like food, water, any needed medications, flashlights and batteries. For students who live off campus, you should also stock up on supplies and anything else that may be necessary during or after the storm.

Now is the time to prepare! Since Baton Rouge appears to be in the path of the storm, everyone should have at least a three-day supply of food and water in the event that power is out for multiple days, or that Baton Rouge or campus facilities cannot reopen immediately. That means a gallon of water per person each day and foods that require no cooking or refrigeration in sizes appropriate for one meal with no leftovers. Once you stock up on supplies, remember to conserve them for if/when they are needed.

Also, charge all mobile devices in advance of the storm in case power goes out. Students should stay in touch with their parents or guardians to ensure they know you are safe.
