BATON ROUGE—The LSU Museum of Art (LSU MOA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark A. Tullos Jr. as its new Executive Director. With a distinguished career in museum leadership and a passion for arts and culture, Tullos brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role. He will officially assume his position at the LSU Museum of Art on June 26, 2023.
“Mark’s decades of experience in the museum world coupled with his eagerness to come home to Baton Rouge make him a perfect fit for leadership at the LSU Museum of Art,” said Senior Vice Provost Jane Cassidy. “I look forward to working with him as we increase visibility of the MOA and expand community engagement opportunities throughout the city and region.”
A Baton Rouge native, Tullos has dedicated his career to the preservation and promotion of the arts as an executive director in art museums and visual arts organizations for over 35 years in Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, and Florida. Tullos' journey in the art field began after receiving his visual arts degree from Louisiana State University and graduate studies at Stephen F. Austin State University. He also completed the program of study at the Museum Management Institute conducted by the Getty Leadership Institute. Tullos' commitment to professional excellence has led him to serve on various advisory boards and committees, including the Museum Loan Network at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) honors committee, and the National Museum Service Board.
Tullos has held notable directorial roles at esteemed institutions, including the Louisiana Office of State Museum, where he served as the Assistant Secretary, and director of the Louisiana State Museum system in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Natchitoches, Patterson and Thibodaux, Louisiana. He also served as the executive director for the Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette from 2004 to 2012, leaving a lasting impact on the institution's growth and success. Most recently, Tullos served as the president and CEO of the Mississippi Arts & Entertainment Experience (THE MAX) in Meridian, Mississippi.
“My wife and I are Baton Rouge natives. Our experiences at Baton Rouge High Magnet and LSU made us who we are today. We both owe so much to the people of Baton Rouge and Louisiana,” said Mark Tullos. “It's an honor to serve my alma mater and this incredible museum.”
