I spent many of my professional years volunteering and being active with non-profit organizations. It was through these connections and built relationships that gave me career options when I needed them. I learned so much about fulfillment by helping others through networking, leadership and outreach, my hope is to share how important it is to make it a part of any career journey.

Students put so much hard work in their day-to-day just to keep up with classes, internships, and extra-curricular activities sometimes they don’t realize things they are capable of. Being a part of the support system to help students connect with their strengths and grow their confidence is especially fulfilling to me. It’s wonderful knowing I’ve been a positive part of an individual’s growth, no matter how small.

Into the unknown

When I was young, I hopped on a tricycle and headed down the massive wooded drop that was our yard in Charleston, West Virginia. My older sister yelled about it to my mom who rescued me from the bottom of the ravine I ended up in. They were astonished I came out of it unscathed. I’ve thought about that instance many times through the years and how wonderful it must have been for that moment – the thrill of the unknown! I’d like to think that is how I enjoy life’s moments. Just heading into that next adventure, ready to tackle whatever comes with zest and fervor, savoring the amusement. Maybe next time wearing a helmet would be a good idea.

Here comes the sun

I’m enthralled with the parade grounds on campus early in the morning as the sun is coming up and things are starting to stir. The squirrels are running all around and up to some kind of mischief. It’s such a wonderful spot to get lost in, just for a moment – tranquil, centering, and accepting of what’s to come.

I'm passionate about

Mental health awareness, and I believe it is important we make it a part of our regular daily conversation. We can do and be better at educating ourselves and understanding mental health disparities.
