Coast and Environment

Louisiana’s coastline contributes to 30 percent of the nation’s commercial fish harvest, which supports a $1.9 billion seafood industry with recreational fisheries adding another $1.96 billion. However, severe weather, coastal land-loss, climate emergency, and other environmental stressors threaten the health of Louisiana’s coastline, the wildlife and fisheries, and economies that depend on it. LSU’s proximity to the Louisiana’s coast and wetlands gives College of Science researchers a front row seat to study the impacts of these factors and create solutions to address these threats. Researchers like Samuel Bentley, Adam Forte, and Morgan Kelly are working with colleagues across disciplines and institutions to help secure a healthier future for our coast.
