Biotechnology and Biomedicine

Cancer remains one of the leading causes of death in the U.S. second to heart disease. However, advancements in diagnosis and targeted therapies offer a more positive outlook on disease survivability contributing to a 33 percent overall reduction of cancer deaths since 1991. And LSU researchers like Mario Rivera, Wayne Newhauser and Michal Brylinski are making significant contributions to not only what we know about the disease, but also how to more quickly and accurately create effective and less toxic treatment options. We also have a long-standing partnership with Mary Bird Perkins which allows us to leverage our education and research expertise through a joint medical and health physics program.
