TRANSFER TO LSU

Earn one of the nation's most valuable degrees by transferring to LSU. As partners in your success, we are committed to working with you to create a seamless transition to our campus and the most efficient path for you to graduate as a Tiger.

Apply as a transfer student if you have enrolled in college courses at another institution after graduating from high school.

HOW TO APPLY

SUBMIT COMMON APPLICATION ONLINE

LSU uses only the Common Application, which serves as the application for admission, as well as the application for all merit-based scholarships offered by LSU.

  • Access the Common Application, and create an account as a Transfer Student
  • Click College Search tab and type in "Louisiana State University" and add LSU to My Colleges
  • Once all sections under the Common App and Louisiana State University tabs are complete and have a green check next to them, you may submit
  • Application Fee: $50 (Eligible students can use a Fee Waiver)

SEND OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS TO LSU

After applying, prospective transfer students should send an official transcript from each college or university attended. If you are currently enrolled in a college at the time your application is submitted, you should submit final transcripts from previous institutions, as well as an in-progress transcript from your current institution.

At the end of your current semester, you should submit final transcripts from your current institution and ensure that the transcript lists any enrolled courses for upcoming semesters, if applicable.

Students will need to contact the Registrar's Office of each college or university they attended to request they send LSU an eSCRIP-SAFE (use the email address admissions@lsu.edu) or mail an official transcript in a sealed envelope to the following address:

LSU Office of Enrollment Management • 1146 Pleasant Hall • Baton Rouge, LA 70803

TRANSFER ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS

  • 30 or more transferable (academic, non-remedial) credit hours from a regionally-accredited college or university**
  • 2.5 academic GPA on all transferable college work attempted
  • Grade of “C” or better in a college-level English course that fulfilled a general education requirement at the institution where it was taken
  • Grade of “C” or better in a college-level math course that fulfilled a general education requirement at the institution where it was taken
  • **Only students who will have earned less than 30 college-level, transferable hours by the start of the semester they have applied for will need to submit their official high school transcript and official ACT or SAT score report.

LSU computes the GPA on all transferable courses, including repeated courses, courses with incomplete grades, and those with any other grades, except “W,” “WA,” “WB,” “WC,” “WD,” “WF,” “unsatisfactory,” and “no credit.” Grades of “pass,” “credit,” and “satisfactory” will be treated alike and will be counted as earned hours, but not in the computation of the GPA. “Fail” will count as hours attempted, but not as hours earned, and will be used to compute the GPA. This policy is followed, regardless of the practices of the sending institution, including other LSU System campuses.

LSU GPA calculations are done independent of other institution’s calculations, which means a student’s GPA could vary from what is posted on his or her transcript.

Change of Major
Students who wish to change majors upon transferring will still have all of their coursework evaluated to determine if they meet published transfer student admission requirements.

Plus/Minus Grading
Plus/minus grade designations will be factored into the GPA calculation beginning with students who apply for the spring 2016 semester

All students must meet LSU’s transfer admission requirements. In addition, some majors have specific requirements for entry into its senior college. Students with more than 60 hours that do not meet the requirements for their prospective senior college may be eligible for admission into the University College Center for Advising & Counseling.

Provisional admission, pending receipt of supplementary records, may be granted to qualified applicants when it is impossible to obtain final records prior to scheduled registration dates. This admission can be canceled if the required records are not received by Undergraduate Admissions within 30 days of the first day of classes, or if it is determined that, upon receipt and review of final records, the applicant is not qualified for admission.

Provisional admission offers students the ability to register for orientation, apply for housing, and begin the advising and scheduling process, while still in progress at their current institution. Full admission is only offered to students who have submitted all official final transcripts.

All students will be considered for admission based on an evaluation of their likelihood of success at LSU. This may include college GPA, pattern and quality of courses taken, grade trends, educational objectives, special talents, significant life and career experiences, membership in groups under represented in the student body, or special circumstances.

Students interested in making an admission appeal should contact Jessica Vargas at jessicav@lsu.edu.
