Packing List
Less is more! Think about what you can share with roommates or suitemates before hitting the stores.
First-year Students
Incoming first-year students move in August 12-13, 2023, with limited appointments on Friday, August 11, 2023, for a $200 early arrival charge. The charge will go on the student's fee bill.
- You must have the LSU Office of Orientation's approval to arrive later than August 13, 2023, since you will miss parts of Welcome Week. We will work with you to schedule a later arrival time once we have Orientation's approval of your late arrival.
Arrival Appointment
- Choose your arrival date and time July 3-14, 2023, in the housing portal.
- Each student signs up for a move-in arrival date and time. If you and your roommate want to move in at the same time, you both need to select the same move-in arrival time.
- If your first choice of move-in time or day fills up, select your second choice and check the appointment site through July 14 for new availability.
- Starting July 15, all requests to make changes to your move-in time must be sent to housing@lsu.edu.
Bed Loft and Rail Requests
- Loft and bed rail requests can be submitted at your front desk move-in weekend.
Tiger Card
- Bring your Tiger Card to Move-in! Submit your Tiger Card photo by July 7, 2023, to pick it up at in-person orientation sessions or have it mailed home.
- If you submit a photo after July 7 or do not pick up your Tiger Card at in-person orientation, you will be issued a temporary key at move-in check-in. You can go to the Tiger Card Office to pick up your Tiger Card during Welcome Week.
Packing Prep
- Read the Living on Campus Handbook for all policies and procedures and what items to leave at home. Use our helpful packing checklist too.
- Try to pack items in boxes, storage tubs, or durable, easy to carry bags to make the move-in process easy for you. Label each item with your First initial, last name, room number, and tally of boxes. For example, Mike the Tiger in Herget 212 with 5 boxes would label his items with "M. Tiger, Herget 212, Box 1/5, Box 2/5," etc.
- Rolling carts are available for use, however you are encouraged to bring a hand truck, dolly, or wagon to use. You and your guests are responsible for moving items into your room.
Print Your Arrival Time Hang Tag
- Check your LSU inbox the first week in August for your printable Move-in Day hang tag. This hang tag is the only way you are allowed on campus and into the Move-in Day staging area on River Road at your move-in day and time.
- Print one hang tag per car. Each student can have a maximum of two vehicles. Sharing, photocopying, or printing extra copies of hang tags is not permitted.
- If you don't have access to a printer, just let us know and we'll mail it to you or tell you how to get one on campus the day you move in.
- If you plan on taking a ride-share or taxi to the staging area, let us know and we'll make sure you have the info you need to be as efficient as possible.
- Position your hang tag on your vehicle's rear view mirror with the date, time, and barcode facing the front windshield. Each student can bring up to two (2) cars. If you have a third car, you need to park it in a perimeter lot on campus before coming to the staging area. A third car will not be allowed into the Move-in staging area.
- Arrive at the Move-in Day staging area, Levee Lot 412 on River Road, no more than
15 minutes before your move-in time.
- Early birds will be redirected to the exit lane to wait for their time.
- Late arrivals will be accommodated as possible.
- Pull up to the welcome tents where you will exchange your hang-tag for a building-specific hang tag.
- Oversize vehicles, cars with trailers attached, and box trucks should use the far right-hand lane in the staging area.
- From there just follow the directional signage and friendly faces to get in the correct lane for your building and then from the staging area to your residence hall or apartment unloading zone.
- At your community's unloading zone, guests can begin unloading cars while the student enters the building to check in.
- Rolling carts are available for use, however you are encouraged to bring a hand truck, dolly, or wagon to use. You and your guests are responsible for moving items into your room.
- After cars are unloaded, they must be moved to parking areas throughout campus that do not interfere with move-in routes. Guests can then walk back to their student's community and rejoin the group.
- Bring down all trash and flattened cardboard boxes to the trash and recycle dumpsters outside the building.
If you go shopping or go to dinner with your family, that is fine. If you leave campus, be prepared for traffic congestion when you return during the day when other students are moving in.
You'll also be asked to move your vehicle away from the res halls or apartments to make room for the next Tigers moving in.
Welcome Week begins after you move-in. LSU Orientation will send detailed schedules to you about all the Welcome Week activities.
