Peter Trentacoste

Executive Director of Residential Life

As a first-generation college student, I still remember my first day on a college campus where I showed up with little more than a few suitcases and my desire for a bright future. Without the support of my Resident Assistant and my Resident Director during my first year I'm fairly confident I wouldn't have made it to my second year. I was fortunate to meet many faculty and staff beyond my first year that helped me make to the finish line.

What gets me out of bed each morning is the idea that I get to build and support a residential program that creates learning environments that enable our students to realize their hopes and dreams just like I was able to do over 20 years ago.

While my experience was happenstance in some ways, I don't ever want that to be the case for the students I serve.

Don't stop the music

I've played in rock bands since I was 13 years old. Anything from glam to blues to grunge. My biggest show was when the band I was with at the time got to open for Shaggy on a large sound stage. I play keyboard and guitar.

Take a walk

I love the oak trees on campus - especially those near the Student Union. Whenever I walk among the oaks, I think about all the generations that have walked that same path and it makes me smile.

Advice I don't leave home without

"Find something that you're passionate about…that's important to do and you like to do - throw yourself into it…. make it your life's work and the career will follow"
