South-Central Conference on Mesoamerica Oct. 18-20
LSU is hosting the 10th Annual South-Central Conference on Mesoamerica (SCCM). The conference begins midday Friday, October 18 and concludes midday Sunday October 20. All activities will be in the Howe-Russell Geoscience Building at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge. A final program of participants will be made available before the conference.
There are exciting events planned, including two keynote speakers. Dr. Lisa LeCount will present her research on “The Role of Collective Action in Land Tenure System at the Ancient Maya Site of Actuncan” on Friday. Dr. Thomas Garrison will discuss “Re-Imagining the Ancient Maya Landscape: Lidar’s Lessons and Limits in 21st Century Settlement Archaeology” Saturday. There will be a silent auction as well as SCCM items for sale to raise funds for student travel awards for next year. The 2019 conference is co-sponsored by Louisiana State University, the Louisiana Archaeological Society, and the Louisiana Division of Archaeology.
