“Ancient Underwater Forest” at the LSU Science Café presented by Dr. Kristine DeLong
On April 30, 2019, Geography and Anthropology professor Kristine DeLong, PhD, presented “Ancient Underwater Forest” at the LSU Science Café.
Her talk the highlighted the research results from the multi-disciplinary project to a crowd of over 125 people at the Varsity Theater.
Attendees heard about the seeds, insects, and pollen found in sediment cores dated to be between 74,000 and 45,000 years old as well as the paleo-geography of the bald cypress swamp that was growing during the last ice age when sea level was 20 to 80 m (65 to 262 feet) lower than today.
