Alcohol in Recruiting Policy
The LSU Olinde Career Center is a member of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), the association for human resources and career center professionals. As members, we abide by the Principles for Professional Conduct, an ethics document that serves as the framework and foundation for practices within career planning, placement, and recruitment processes.
The Principles document states that serving alcohol to job candidates is inappropriate and inadvisable. The principle states "Serving alcohol should not be part of the recruitment process on or off campus. This includes receptions, dinners, company tours, etc."
Abiding by these Principles means that having an open bar, a paid bar, or holding a recruiting event in a bar is inappropriate. Given the whole notion of alcohol abuse and associated problems college campuses face with alcohol among students, serving alcohol at a reception sends the wrong message. Further, many college students are younger than the state's legal drinking age, and many college campuses now have a zero-alcohol-tolerance policy in effect. Therefore, serving alcohol could be in violation of both state law and school policy.
This memo is intended to demonstrate the LSU Olinde Career Center's support of the "No Alcohol in Campus Recruiting" policy.
If you would like to read the Principles for Professional Practice document in its entirety, please visit NACE's website.
Please be sure you have reviewed and understand the Employer Policies and Procedures when Recruiting at LSU. Failing to adhere to the policies can result in being banned from recruiting on our campus.
