The LSU School of Veterinary Medicine conferred two advanced degrees on December 16, 2022.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY
Viviane Gomes, DVM, from Montes Claros, Brazil, received her Ph.D. in Biomedical and Veterinary Medical Sciences in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. Her dissertation was entitled “The Role of Kisspeptins in Trophoblast Cell Dynamics: Comparative Studies Using the Horse and the Preeclamptic-like BPH/5 Mouse as Animal Models.” Her major advisor was Jennifer Sones, DVM (LSU 2008), Ph.D., DACT, associate professor of theriogenology. Dr. Gomes is joining the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine as an assistant professor of theriogenology in January 2023.
MASTER OF SCIENCE
Xiaoqian Shan, MS, from Xu Zhou, China, received her Master’s in Biomedical and Veterinary Medical Sciences in the Department of Pathobiological Sciences. Her thesis was titled “Role of CD38 in Pulmonary Host Defense against Gram-negative Pneumonia”. Her advisor was Dr. Samithamby Jeyaseelan, DVM, Ph.D, a professor in the Department of Pathobiological Sciences. After graduation, Xiaoqian will be moving to Maryland to work as a research assistant.
