Dr. Neil Kestner

In Memoriam: Professor Emeritus Neil Kestner

During his career at LSU, Professor Emeritus Neil Kestner emerged as a leading figure in theoretical physical chemistry and served as both department chair and president of the LSU Faculty Senate. He pioneered integrating computer technology into research and teaching chemistry, serving a pivotal role in the MERLOT project. Professor Emeritus Kestner passed away on May 30, 2024, but his contributions to research and education left an enduring legacy that will continue to impact countless students and scholars.

Dr. Baranets

LSU Chemistry Professor Receives Prestigious Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award

June 17, 2024

Assistant Professor Sviatoslav Baranets received a 2024 Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award from the Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU). The award recognizes Baranets’ project exploring the structural and electronic properties of Zintl Pnictides under high-pressure conditions. Insights gained from the project have the potential to advance the development of next-generation electronic devices and energy technologies.

LSU Chemistry Stockroom Coordinator Receives 2024 Technician of the Year Award

The ACS Baton Rouge Local Section honored Nicole Reid, the Organic Chemistry Stockroom Coordinator, with the 2024 Technician of the Year Award. The award recognizes Nicole’s service to the department by supporting the organic chemistry teaching laboratories and fostering a safe and conducive learning environment.

With sadness, we share the news of the passing of Boyd Professor Emeritus Sean McGlynn, who led a remarkable academic journey, leaving an indelible mark on LSU and the broader academic community. He spearheaded several initiatives that led to substantial advancements in research productivity and funding, including CAMD, the Center for Energy Studies, and the creation of the Boyd Professor Research Fund.
