LSU’s Manship School Student Honored with MLK Humanitarian Award

February 4, 2019

Lauren RoachBaton Rouge, LA – LSU’s Manship School of Mass Communication junior Lauren Roach was awarded the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award by the LSU Black Faculty and Staff Caucus for her outstanding efforts in establishing a new initiative to improve race relations.

Roach’s “Seaux Live” initiative aims to create safe spaces on campus for diverse students to meet and socialize to build a sense of community between people from the same ethnic background. Her initiative launched in September 2018 and resulted in many students gathering together in between classes to hang out in a welcoming environment.

Roach, a native of Bowie, Maryland, is concentrating in digital advertising. She hopes to one day work within the digital or social media marketing industry.

As the director of Student Diversity in LSU Student Government, Roach intends to collaborate with other on-campus organizations to highlight diversity at LSU and encourage students to branch out to experience different cultures with a spirit of celebration.

“The Seaux Live initiative is a lighter, more fun approach to diversity, and I hope it allows students on our campus to support each other in an innovative way,” Lauren said.

Seaux Live is actively looking for students to participate and enjoy the community. More information can be found on LSU Student Government’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
