Educators' Corner

Welcome to the Educator’s Corner for our Trees and Trails Field Trips! My name is Sarah Rayner and I am a retired Biology teacher. My motivation for having an Educator’s Corner is to provide teachers with lesson plans and interactive activities that address the National Standards in education. As a former teacher, I know that the paperwork involved in preparing for a field trip can be a time-consuming and daunting process. My hope is that the educational information presented will reduce preparation for the field trip, and provide exciting pre and post trip activities to use in the classroom.

We also invite you to Corn Maze Fridays, a fun-filled, action packed adventure at the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens at Burden this fall. Some of the exciting activities include: picking out a pumpkin from our pumpkin corral to decorate and take home, taking a hayride, participating in the Giant Slingshot game, petting farm, and so much more! We offer two 2-hour slots every Friday of October with up to 200 students per time slot. The first time slot is 9:00am-11:00 am, and the second is from 11:00am-1:00pm. Corn Maze is open to Pre-K-4th grade school groups at $10 per student. There is no fee for teachers or chaperones. Payment must be made at the time of the field trip in form of cash or a check made payable to LSU Foundation. Please bring the correct payment because refunds cannot be made for children who do not attend. Teachers are asked to plan groups of 20-25 students in advance. We welcome the children to bring their lunch and enjoy a picnic after participating in Corn Maze! There will be a designated area for lunch. We will provide water and garbage cans so the students can pick up after eating lunch. The Registration Form will need to be returned by fax or scan, and accompanied by a follow-up email to ensure your booking. Our field trips fill up quickly, so we encourage you to sign up as soon as possible for this event!
