New Student Orientation
LSU has two major functions for orienting and advising incoming freshmen:
- Spring Invitational, which is by invitation only
- Summer Orientation, which consists of one of several one-day sessions throughout the summer.
Both functions follow a similar format. First, students and parents will receive important information from various campus contacts and learn about activities and opportunities for involvement. Students then receive their placement information, meet with a counselor or faculty advisor, and plan their course schedule for the summer and/or fall semester. Students will also have an opportunity to take placement tests in subjects such as math and foreign language prior to starting school.
If you have any questions regarding these functions, please contact the LSU Admissions Office at (225) 578-2634.
If you have any questions about the ALEKS test, a prerequisite for Calculus I, please visit https://www.math.lsu.edu/ugrad/ALEKS.
Transfer Orientation and Resources
LSU also holds orientation sessions for transfer students the week before classes start each semester, and one session during the summer for students transferring in the fall. Visit the Transfer Resources page to learn more about events like the Transfer Career Workshop and other student services.
