John Pendergast, ChE Professional in Residence, Leads Team from Dow to U.S. Patent
Congratulations go to John Pendergast, who serves as a Professional in Residence for our department, on receiving Patent No. US 10,6256,097, "Process for Making Hydroxyethyl Piperazine Compounds." John was the lead inventor on the team from Dow who filed for the patent. The invention relates to an improved process for making hydroxyethyl piperazine compounds, especially mono-hydroxyethyl piperazine. The improvement comprises reacting piperazine and an alkylene oxide, preferably ethylene oxide in a reactive distillation column.
