Research Programs Update
I hope that everyone is doing well and managing these odd times the best that one can. I want to take a moment to give a brief update for the LSU College of the Coast & Environment’s, or CC&E’s, research enterprise.
I want to congratulate our faculty for their outstanding efforts in forging ahead on current research projects as well as ramping up efforts to bring in new research dollars to the college during these challenging times. These funds are vital for providing educational and research opportunities for our undergraduates and graduate students and clearly highlighting the college as a research leader in Louisiana, across the Gulf, and around the world. For perspective, the college’s faculty have been awarded an average of $7.67 million per year in grant funds during the last seven years (2014-2020), which is an outstanding accomplishment! For the 2020-2021 year, the faculty are on pace to significantly increase our grant funding from just one year ago, potentially in excess of $10 million.
Our faculty conduct critical research all around the globe. We are continuing to expand our scientific expertise on critical fisheries, plastics in the ocean, wetland restoration, harmful algal blooms, river diversions, hurricane impacts, sea level rise and many other environmental issues that affect our coastal communities. Please feel free to contact me if you want to know more about our research efforts and sign up for our newsletter.
