Christina Persaud fell in love with LSU when she toured the campus and learned about
all the academic programs LSU offered.
She graduated in 2011 with bachelor’s degree in public relations and in 2013 with a master’s in strategic communication.
Today, Christina is the Director of Brand Management at MESH Integrated Marketing and Advertising in Baton Rouge. Her role is to oversee brand managers and provide strategic counsel for all agency accounts.
Christina said that there are no typical days working in brand management at an ad agency. She opens her Outlook app every morning to check her emails on her phone so she can prepare herself for the day ahead. Her role at MESH is to serve as a liaison between the agency and the client. This includes anything from coordinating an integrated campaign, producing a national commercial or collateral, drafting marketing plans, etc.
The coolest job she participated in with MESH this past year was producing a national commercial spot for a client in Atlanta. She worked 12-hour days for 5 days with the talent and film crew they hired. She even got to spend time on set with a professional dog they booked for the commercial! The experience was exhausting but worthwhile.
LSU’s curriculum gave Christina the theoretical and practical framework she needed to be prepared for a career in public relations. She participated in hands-on projects that were applicable to the “real world” as a student. These projects helped her tackle similar projects in her professional career immediately upon graduating.
In her time at LSU she was impacted and encouraged by her professors. They guided her through her pre-professional career path, and she realized public relations was the right major for her through their classes.
Her best advice to students is to get involved because it’s a great opportunity to make lifelong friends. As a student she was involved in PRSSA, the student association for her field, and PRestige, an extra-curricular student run firm that worked with area non-profits.
“Enjoy the freedom that comes with being in college, but be sure to stay focused on the end goal as these next few years really can shape the rest of your life.”
Christina made the most of her time as a student off campus as well. She picked up hobbies like running the scenic lakes at LSU and visiting nearby establishments to eat and shop with friends. Her favorite memory from this time was studying abroad in London for a summer. She visited interesting places like Shakespeare’s hometown and learned about British literature from LSU professors. She described it as the “highlight of my LSU experience.”
