December 16, 2024
BATON ROUGE – The LSU College of Science is honored to announce Andrew Maas as the Fall 2024 Commencement Speaker. As the Associate Vice President for Research and head of the Office of Innovation and Ecosystem Development at LSU, as well as the Board Chair of the global nonprofit AUTM, he brings over two decades of experience in technology licensing and commercialization to the stage.
Maas's career has taken him from an engineering startup, where he built a company from two to 14 employees, to academic roles in both university and research foundation settings. He currently manages an office of 42 full-time and eight part-time employees responsible for all technology commercialization, small business support, incubation, acceleration, and SBIR/STTR activities at the LSU Flagship campus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
He is also the Principal Investigator on the recently announced $160M NSF Engine award for Louisiana. The consortium, Future Use of Energy in Louisiana (FUEL), brought together more than 65 partners across the state and over 165 individuals during the ideation, planning, development, and submission process. In addition to the $160M from the NSF, Louisiana Economic Development has committed $67.5M to help hire faculty and staff focused on research, workforce, and commercialization across the state.
Maas also lectures globally on intellectual property valuation, economic impact, technology licensing, and technology commercialization.
