Undergraduate students interested in applying for a travel stipend must currently be enrolled in the LSU Distinguished Undergraduate Researcher Program
(DURP).
The travel stipend application is only available to current Distinguished Undergraduate
Researcher candidates via the DURP Moodle.

Through DURP, students must have the following requirements completed prior to applying:
- 90 research practice hours
- Abstract Writing workshop
- CITI Responsible Conduct of Research training
Students also must:
- Be enrolled as an undergraduate at LSU at the time of travel (i.e. If you are graduating
in May 2027, you cannot apply for a travel stipend for a conference in June 2027).
- Have a minimum 2.5 GPA
- Be in good standing with the University
To apply:
- Application must be submitted via the Travel Stipends section of the DURP Moodle a
minimum of 2 weeks prior to the first day of travel.
- Must receive a letter of recommendation from your faculty mentor to support the application.
Not all events qualify for a travel stipend. Below are the types of eligible events:
- Professional Conferences (Ex. Statewide, regional, national, international conferences.
Open to faculty, staff, students, industry professionals, etc. to present. Usually
discipline or topic specific.)
- Professional Exhibitions or equivalent events in the arts
- The National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR)
- Two in-state, student-only conferences are eligible:
- Travel stipends are funded through our office on a first come, first served basis
per fiscal year.
- Only one student per conference will be funded. Students presenting as a group can
split the stipend.
- Students may receive a travel stipend once per academic year.
- The Office of Undergraduate Research can only reimburse costs allowed by LSU travel
regulations. See PM-13 for details.
- Student travel expenses are typically reimbursed around 4-6 weeks after return from
travel.
- The Office of Undergraduate Research will pay directly for student airfare and conference
registration costs where allowable.
- Reimbursement only; no travel cash advances are available.
