Nothing! LSU Upward Bound is absolutely free to participants. In fact, regular participants that meet attendance and grade requirements can even earn a stipend. A stipend is essentially an allowance that we can pay to our participants if they meet the requirements.
Students who are:
- currently enrolled at an East Baton Rouge Parish high school
- first generation college students
- from homes with financial need
- in need of academic support
- motivated and committed to attending college
To join LSU Upward Bound, you must meet our eligibility requirements. To review the requirements and fill out an application, please visit the "Application Process" tab of our website. Once you have filled out an application, we will invite you to an interview.
Our participants receive free college prep, the opportunity to earn free college credits at LSU, stipends for participation, field trips, activities, visits to college campuses, and more!
Both the ACT and the SAT are standardized tests used for college admissions processes. The ACT is scored 1-36, while the SAT is scored 400-1600. Upward Bound will pay the registration fees for 4 ACT tests per participant.
LSU Upward Bound is committed to providing for our participants' success. We provide academic advising, tutoring, college and career counseling, social and cultural enrichment, opportunities to visit college campuses, and more! Our participants receive all of this for free.
