From May 1st to 6th, 2018, Ms. Lorena Colina, Assistant Director of International Services, and Ms. Karolina Healy, International
Programs Coordinator, traveled to Panamá City, Panamá to represent LSU at the EDÚCATE 2018 educational fair and to connect LSU with other strategic opportunities. With direction from Dr. Hector Zapata, Associate Vice Provost for International Programs, LSU International Programs had a clear message to represent LSU’s Graduate and ESL programs at the most important educational fair in the country of Panamá; and to explore other opportunities aligned with LSU’s mission and values.
The EDÚCATE fair was held on May 4th, 5th and 6th, 2018. The fair is organized and sponsored by the government of Panamá through IFARHU (Instituto para la Formación y Aprovechamiento de Recursos Humanos). IFARHU is a governmental institution devoted to developing Panamanian citizens and communities. The institution grants scholarships and educational loans to students who want to study either in Panamá or another country.
IFARHU’s annual “EDÚCATE” fair is the largest and most dynamic international education event in Panamá. Many universities from various countries attend to recruit students. The opening remarks and inauguration of EDÚCATE 2018 was led by the President of the Republic of Panamá, Mr. Juan Carlos Varela, and by the Director of IFARHU, Ms. Yesenia Rodriguez. President Juan Carlos Varela then walked around the fair to interact with the students and exhibitors. He stopped and posed for pictures at the LSU booth with an LSU lanyard around his neck, in support of our university.
Roughly 650 prospective students signed up to receive more information about Graduate, Undergraduate and ESL programs at LSU; the most popular fields were business, engineering, agriculture and food sciences. EDÚCATE 2018 is a prime example of how LSU is making
positive strides toward comprehensive internationalization and the Strategic Plan 2025. The need for more attendance at fairs similar to this one is a crucial part in LSU reaching our prospective outcomes aligned in the Strategic Plan 2025.
