“Dr. Bauer’s ability to produce high-quality scholarship is apparent in not only her
publication record, but also the number of peer-reviewed articles she has published
over the years and the places where her work is found,” said Troy Blanchard, dean
of the College of Humanities & Social Sciences. Robert Hogan, R. Downs Poindexter
Professor and chair of the Department of Political Science added, “Dr. Bauer is a
talented teacher and mentor to her students. I am very happy our students have an
opportunity to be trained by a professor engaged in such cutting-edge research.”
"Dr. Bauer's is critical to the intersection of political communication and gender
bias," said Josh Grimm, interim dean of the LSU Manship School of Mass Communication.
"She is fiercely passionate about her research, which is evident in her tremendous
scholarship and commitment to teaching and facilitating impactful research among our
students. We applaud Dr. Bauer for this well-deserved honor."
Jointly appointed in the LSU Manship School of Mass Communication, Bauer conducts
research on gender and politics, specifically focusing on how strategic political
communication affects the way voters form impressions about women in politics. She
received a 3-year grant from the Louisiana Board of Regents to create a Gender & Politics Research Lab that supports undergraduate and graduate
researchers who will help conduct experiments, public opinion studies and news content
analyses.
“It’s such an honor to be recognized for my research, especially among so many talented
scholars at LSU,” said Bauer.
Bauer is the recipient of the 2019 LSU Alumni Association Rising Faculty Research
Award and the 2018 Gender and Political Psychology Network Emerging Scholar Award.
