Looking Back 10 Years Later
Many lessons were learned after Deepwater Horizon changed the coastline and oil and gas industry 10 years ago. Throughout the past 10 years, faculty in the department have been asked to weigh in, given their expertise. At the time of the incident Dr. John Rogers Smith was on faculty as an Associate Professor and reported his finding to the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement. His review of the operational data preceding the incident is available here. To mark the 10 year anniversary of the incident, a feature was written by the College of Engineering. The College's news article on Deepwater Horizon, including and perspectives from Dr. Williams, can be found here.
