LSU Engineering Awarded Nine Patents in Current Fiscal Year

BATON ROUGE, LA – Since July 1, 2020, LSU has been awarded 15 patents in this current fiscal year. Nine of these have gone to the College of Engineering and its faculty and researchers.
The following are the patents issued:
- Single-Well, Gas-Assisted Gravity Drainage Process for Oil Recovery—issued on July 7, 2020, to LSU Petroleum Engineering Professor Dandina Rao and LSU Petroleum Engineering PhD student Bikash Saikia.
- Soft Tissue Fixation Device—issued on July 22, 2020 to LSU Biological & Agricultural Engineering Professor Todd Monroe and LSU School of Veterinary Medicine Professor and Director of the Laboratory for Equine and Comparative Orthopedic Research Mandi Lopez.
- Computer Implemented System and Method for High-Performance Visual Tracking—issued on Aug. 25, 2020, to LSU Computer Science Associate Professor Supratik Mukhopadhyay, Vice President of Engineering at Ailectric Robert DiBiano, SODIUM-24 Founder Malcolm Stagg, Facebook Maps Research Scientist Saikat Basu, Jerry Weltman, and Manhoar Karki, research scientist at The National Institutes of Health.
- Universal Molecular Processor for Precision Medicine—issued on Nov. 10, 2020, to LSU Mechanical Engineering Professors Michael C. Murphy and Sunggook Park, University of North Carolina Professor of Chemistry and Biomedical Engineering Steven Soper, University of North Carolina Electronics Design Engineering and Electronics Facility Manager Collin McKinney, University of North Carolina Research Instructor Mateusz Hupert, Cornell University Professor of Microbiology and Immunology Francis Barany, and John William Efcavitch, co-founder and chief scientific officer of Molecular Assemblies.
