Thanks to DOCS Professor Emeritus Irving A. Mendelssohn and his wife, USGS Scientist Emeritus, Karen McKee, graduate students will be able to conduct research and travel to conferences, something that Mendelssohn and McKee—both career wetland scientists—recognize as crucial for early career scientists. This award was founded in 2023. |

Dr. James Gosselink Scholarship |
LSU Emeritus Professor James Gosselink was a revered leader in wetland ecology for more than 40 years. A recipient of the National Wetlands Award, the late Dr. Gosselink authored and co-authored numerous scientific contributions including Wetlands, a premier reference book on wetland ecology, now in its fifth edition. He served as Chair of the Department of Marine Sciences (later renamed “Oceanography & Coastal Sciences”) for 26 years. This scholarship is given in his honor by his family. |
