LSU to Host International Artificial Intelligence Conference

September 12, 2024

The AI/ML Systems Conference will be held in the United States for the first time, October 8th - 11th, on the LSU campus.

It will examine the intersection of artificial intelligence, also known as AI, and machine learning, known as ML.

“This is a unique interdisciplinary conference that focuses on AI and ML systems (including Generative AI) deployed in diverse verticals ranging from healthcare to space. It will introduce participants to different perspectives on AI and ML coming from domain experts in these verticals,” said Supratik Mukhopadhyay, a professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences. Mukhopadhyay is serving as a co-chair of the conference organizing committee.

LSU expertise will feature prominently at the meeting. Alongside international experts from industry leaders such as Microsoft, Amazon and Walmart, faculty members from six different LSU departments and institutes are co-chairing committees or participating in discussions.

LSU Faculty involved with the conference include:

·       Supratik Mukhopadhyay of the Department of Environmental Sciences

·        Zuo “George” Xue of the Department of Oceanography & Coastal Sciences

·       Yimin Zhu of the Bert S. Turner Department of Construction Management

·       Yanyu Wang of the Bert S. Turner Department of Construction Management

·       Harmet Kaiser of the Department of Computer Science

·       Brad Ives of the LSU Institute for Energy Innovation

·       Frank Tsai of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

The conference will explore many facets of the growing fields of artificial intelligence and machine learning, including the relationship between computational systems and the expansion of AI and ML, and the impact of the growth and creation of new forms of AI and ML on socio-techno-economic systems.

Attendees may take part in a generative AI workshop and hear panel discussions, including an examination of the relationship between high powered computing and artificial intelligence.
