Ambulatory Service for Horses
The LSU Equine Ambulatory Service offers primary care service for horses in the Baton Rouge area. Our services are provided by veterinarians who have experience in equine field medicine. Together with our veterinary technicians and veterinary students, we provide on-site routine health maintenance services such as wellness exams, vaccines and dentistry directly at the farm. Our veterinary trucks are fully equipped with diagnostic equipment such as portable radiography, ultrasound and endoscopy equipment which allows us to care for our regular patients when they are ill and in need of diagnostic assessment. Our team works in close consultation with LSU specialty services such as surgery, internal medicine, ophthalmology, theriogenology, cardiology, neurology and dermatology to provide comprehensive care for our ambulatory clients. These specialists are always available for phone consults to our field service clinicians.
Clients who use LSU Equine Ambulatory Service as their primary care provider are eligible for on-site emergency care. This care is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including nights, weekend and holidays. Emergency services may be suspended during major weather events such as hurricanes for safety reasons. Our team constantly strives to provide leading-edge and compassionate care for horses while providing you with excellent and comprehensive service.

Emergency Services
Clients who use LSU Equine Ambulatory Service as their primary care provider are eligible for on-site emergency care. LSU Equine Ambulatory Service is your primary care provider if our veterinarians have provided on-site preventative health maintenance care for your horse within the last calendar year. This emergency care service is provided for those clients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including nights, weekends and holidays. Emergency services may be suspended during major weather events such as hurricanes due to safety concerns.
Please note: Due to the proximity of the Vet School to Tiger Stadium, timely response for on-site ambulatory emergencies is limited during certain large events. Therefore, the Ambulatory Service is unable to respond to field service calls during LSU home football games when traffic flow is altered by LSU/Baton Rouge Police. However, the hospital remains available to all clients for haul-in emergency services.
