Introducing MikeGPT: LSU's AI Assistant

December 09, 2024

Dear Colleagues,

I am excited to introduce MikeGPT, an innovative AI assistant developed by LSU faculty, staff, and students. MikeGPT leverages LSU's public data and documents to answer your LSU-related questions and also assists with general tasks. Whether you’re seeking specific institutional information or assistance with general tasks, MikeGPT is here to help. It is exclusively available to faculty and staff through LSU single sign-on at mikegpt.lsu.edu and through myLSU.

As one of the few institutions to develop an AI assistant like MikeGPT, LSU is leading the way in integrating advanced technology into our academic and administrative frameworks. This is just one example of the great ideas generated through the AI Working Groups, established in fall 2023. This launch of MikeGPT not only reflects our dedication to innovation but also our commitment to providing faculty and staff tools to make your work easier and faster.

I encourage you to take advantage of this resource and explore how MikeGPT can assist you in your roles.

Sincerely,

Roy Haggerty
Executive Vice President & Provost

Key Features and Considerations

MikeGPT chat window. "Hello Mike, what can you do?" "I can assist you with questions about Louisiana State University (LSU) documents, policies, and procedures. If you have any specific inquiries related to LSU, feel free to ask!"

  • Private & Secure Alternative to ChatGPT: MikeGPT is specifically designed for LSU data, however, it can also be used for tasks for which you would normally use ChatGPT.  MikeGPT operates within LSU’s secure IT infrastructure, with access restricted to faculty and staff through single sign-on.
  • Applied Research: MikeGPT uses a custom model workflow developed by LSU faculty and students to find answers to questions in large datasets (such as LSU’s). Responses may take up to 10 seconds to generate as the system actively searches through its database.
  • AI Systems are Imperfect: While we strive for accuracy and reliability, AI systems are imperfect and can make mistakes. Please verify all information obtained through MikeGPT.

We encourage users to reference the MikeGPT User Guide for additional information about MikeGPT.
