Mentor Application
The goal of New Employee Preparation Program is to assist new hires within the first two years of employment at Louisiana State University. The program is designed to assist the mentee with becoming oriented within their new position, the LSU campus, and understanding LSU culture by offering support and guidance. During the first year of implementation, the pilot program will enroll several small groups of mentees with corresponding mentors into this mentorship level.
The role of mentor is to act as both an advisor and coach to a mentee. Providing feedback, giving guidance, and sharing expertise allows the mentor to guide the mentee through personal and career development opportunities. A mentor may help with exploring careers, setting goals, developing contacts, and identifying resources. It is important to note that the role may change as the needs of the mentee change.
Mentors must:
- Be employed at a full-time status (100% effort)
- Have at least 5 years of service at LSU
- Be in good-standing with the University
- Have the ability to set goals, develop action plans, and manage multiple deadlines
- Have a strong work ethic and a proven track record of accountability
- Be willing to commit to monthly meetings
Supervisor approval is required for participation.
This application is for the New Employee Preparation Program, Navigating LSU. The program will span from March 2019-December 2019 and will follow a group mentoring format. As a mentor, you will guide a small group of new hires.
