On March 20, 2024 LSU Police received a report of an incident that occurred in the early morning hours of March 18, 2024 involving an aggravated assault near Canal Hall. LSU Police met with the victim, who stated that a suspect threatened them with a firearm. The victim was not harmed. The suspects also committed vehicle burglaries in the area.

Some important safety tips to remember are to be vigilant at all times, lock your vehicle, walk or travel in groups, tell a friend where you are going and when you expect to arrive, and immediately report all crimes, emergencies, or suspicious activity by calling 911.  

UPDATE

LSUPD detectives secured an arrest warrant for an individual identified through the investigation. The suspect was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison by EBRSO detectives on March 21, 2024, on separate charges. LSUPD detectives have charged the suspect with Aggravated Assault with a Firearm and Carrying a Firearm in a Firearm-Free Zone.
