Philosophy

The Philosophy faculty at LSU produce cutting-edge scholarship that gets published by top-tier academic journals and university presses. Within their ranks are creative and energetic teachers, committed to instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Our students participate in one of the oldest academic disciplines and engage in reasoned analysis of issues of meaning and value. The program in philosophy at LSU offers a wide range of courses covering fundamental philosophical questions, logic, and the history of philosophy, all of which equip students for a wide range of opportunities in academia and beyond. Many of our graduates have pursued rewarding careers in law, linguistics, computer science and informatics, medicine, and mass communication.

We have both a graduate program and an undergraduate program in philosophy.

You can find our current course offerings here. If you’re interested in learning more about the major or simply chatting about philosophy, feel free to contact the Section Head of Philosophy.
