Human-Centered Digital Twins for Real-World Systems
The Digital Twinning Studio uses spatial computing and human-centered design to turn complex data into clear, compelling experiences.
The Digital Twinning Studio is a central hub within LSU’s digital twin ecosystem, collaborating with partners across campus and beyond to develop digital twins for real-world systems. Our approach is shaped by backgrounds in entertainment technology and a shared passion for building compelling experiences for film, games, museums, and public audiences. That perspective influences how we design digital twins so complex information becomes more human, more understandable, and more experiential. Our Approach
From visualization to insight, designed for human experience
We build digital twins through two complementary frameworks, VIS and VITAL.
- VIS guides how a twin evolves from high-fidelity visualization to real-time interactivity and simulation for scenario testing.
- VITAL guides how people engage with the twin, using human-centered techniques like contextualization, storytelling, spatialization, sonification, and gamification to create data empathy and clarity.

Industry Engagement
LSU’s digital twin ecosystem works with industry partners to explore, prototype, and de-risk emerging digital twin technologies. We collaborate on applied research, training, and visualization efforts that help organizations better understand complex systems, test scenarios, and explore new approaches before deploying them in the real world.

Engagement with LSU Students & Faculty
Digital twin work at LSU is driven by collaboration across disciplines, courses, labs, and research groups. Students, faculty, and researchers are invited to connect, share projects, and explore how digital twins can support research, teaching, experimentation, and creative inquiry across the university.
American Energy Leadership: LSU Signs Research Agreements with Argonne, Oak Ridge National Laboratories
Expanding collaboration on digital twins with the national laboratories demonstrates LSU’s growing value to Louisiana and the nation. Louisiana’s strong presence in energy, petrochemicals, minerals refining, offshore operations and access to waterways—coupled with LSU’s expertise and capacity for industry impact—creates a springboard for digital twin innovation.
