Current Extension Interests

 

Improve the quality of life of citizens of the state by providing unbiased information to clientele (county agents, legislators, governmental agencies, industry, and the public) as resources permit regarding integrated pest management of nut and ornamental arthropods, termites, other structural and household arthropods, school IPM, fire ants in those areas, and other program areas if needed. Extend information involving entomology to the people of the state of Louisiana through a wide variety of educational activities including public education programs and demonstrations. Demonstrations include a new insecticide formulation for termites, IPM of tawny crazy ant, wood treatments, conducive conditions, IPM of termites; and pecan nut casebearer attacking water hickory. Education programs include insect identification for 4H students, training of pest management professionals at the Lois Caffey Termite Training Center, recertification meetings, coordination of audio visuals and presentations at the Louisiana Agricultural Consultants Association, participation with the Governor’s Task Force on IPM of the Formosan subterranean termite, presentations to master gardeners, arthropod webpages, and IPM in Schools. Educational programs also include publications, newsletters, exhibits, identification of insects, media contacts, e-mails, social media, and answering phone calls.
