BATON ROUGE - Applications for the LSU School of Kinesiology’s new Master of Science
in Athletic Training (MSAT) degree are now open. Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation
of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), students in the School of Kinesiology’s MSAT
program will work with award-winning clinical and instructional faculty while completing
classroom and clinical coursework necessary to practice as an athletic trainer upon
taking a national certification examination.
The Master of Science in Athletic Training is built around 60 credit hours of required
clinical and classroom coursework to: satisfy the program’s accreditation requirements
set forth by CAATE; and enable students to meet eligibility requirements to sit for
the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification examination, leading
to state licensure requirements to practice as an athletic trainer upon graduation.
“Our diverse curricular experience, within an active learning environment and access
to the most advanced sports medicine resources available, will offer students the
opportunity to complete one of the most rigorous programs in the country.” states
Ray Castle, PhD, LAT, ATC, NREMT and Professor of Professional Practice and Athletic
Training Program Director. “Our students will complete two years of intensive structured
clinical work in orthopedic and primary care medicine clinics, emergency medicine,
high schools, other medical facilities, and LSU Athletic Department’s athletic training
facilities.”
With program cohorts limited to 26 students and courses designed for innovative hands-on
learning, MSAT students will receive individual attention, and extensive clinical
experiences with access to state-of-the-art instructional equipment and facilities.
The inaugural class will start Summer 2021, and prospective students can apply via
the Common Application System. For more information on this program, please visit the LSU School of Kinesiology.
