The LSU Office of Academic Affairs has launched a new External Awards and Recognition program to be directed by Dr. Laura Choate. The program will provide LSU faculty and academic leadership with centralized strategic support to identify, apply for, and attain prestigious external awards.  In addition, the program will highlight and showcase current recipients of prestigious awards, as identified by the National Research Council, to increase awareness both internally and externally.

“I am pleased to announce the launch of this important program that will not only enhance LSU’s reputation but also address one of the key metrics in attaining membership into the AAU,” said Executive Vice President & Provost Roy Haggerty. “The creation of this program will allow academic leadership and our faculty to have access to centralized support while they navigate a complex process.”

External awards can provide much-deserved acknowledgment for career achievements, contributions to a specialized field of study, and innovative research projects. In addition, external recognition increases faculty visibility, access to resources, and the networks necessary to elevate scholarly work for its broadest impact.

"We have many nationally prominent exceptional faculty members at LSU and this is one way we can help get their work recognized more broadly and to celebrate their achievements," said Senior Vice Provost Jane Cassidy. "Retaining faculty is certainly a top priority and this is one way we can demonstrate our commitment to their success and pride for their accomplishments."

In the forthcoming weeks, the LSU Office of Academic Affairs will launch a website dedicated to highlighting current faculty award recipients and will include information about the services of the External Awards and Recognition program.

“I am excited about this new role with Academic Affairs and the many opportunities the program will open for our faculty," said Laura Choate. "Because we recognize pursuit of the most prestigious awards can be a tedious and cumbersome process, we want to assist faculty in the management of the awards process from start to finish.”
