Flood Risk Reduction Design Contractor Selected for University Lakes Project

BATON ROUGE – The Project Management Committee for the University Lakes Project has
awarded a contract for flood risk reduction design services, marking the fourth and
final professional services contract for this project.
Stantec was selected to deliver flood risk reduction design services for the project. Responsibilities will include hydrologic and soils data analysis, hydrologic model development, dredging methods and dredge modeling development, earthwork modeling, water quality enhancement and preparing a project construction and implementation plan. This work will occur in coordination with the three consultants that were selected in December 2020: Sasaki, GeoEngineers and Fenstermaker.
Stantec was selected based on its response to a public request for proposals to initiate the restoration of the six lakes surrounding the LSU campus: City Park Lake, Erie Lake, College Lake, Campus Lake, University Lake and Crest Lake. RFQs were issued Dec. 17, 2020, with a response deadline of Jan. 21, 2021. In addition to Stantec, Anchor QEA and G.E.C. also submitted responses for consideration.
On Feb. 2, an evaluation team comprising representatives of each project partner reviewed and scored proposals submitted by the three firms. At the evaluation team’s request, the three firms delivered oral presentations virtually on Feb. 11. Following the oral presentations, the evaluation team finalized its ranking of the three consultant teams and made a recommendation to the Project Management Committee, which then made the final selection for the flood risk reduction design procurement. Together, Stantec, Sasaki, GeoEngineers and Fenstermaker will provide high quality professional skills and guidance to the University Lakes Project.
The coalition that was formed to restore the lakes includes the State of Louisiana, the City of Baton Rouge and Parish of East Baton Rouge, BREC, LSU and the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, with a joint venture of Brailsford & Dunlavey and CSRS serving as project advisor. The University Lakes Project is being implemented by University Lakes, LLC, which was established by the LSU Real Estate and Facilities Foundation, an affiliate of the LSU Foundation.
