Louisiana Technology Transfer Office wins 2020 Tibbets Award

The Tibbetts Award 2020 chooses outstanding small businesses and individuals who participate in the SBA’S Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs to honor.

LTTO is being recognized for its economic and social impact resulting from assisting entrepreneurs through SBIR/STTR funding and building an innovative ecosystem in Louisiana. LTTO facilitates collaborative partnerships between Louisiana businesses, federal labs, and university/research institutions, accomplished by leveraging research capabilities with the commercial development potential of the private sector.

“For nearly four decades, the SBIR/STTR programs have been assisting small businesses with launching ideas from conception to market. The Tibbetts Awards highlight our nation’s next generation of competitive creators who help push the U.S. economy into the future,” said SBA Administrator Jovita Carranza.

LTTO, with offices at LSU Innovation Park and the NASA John C. Stennis Space Center, is responsible for the SBIR program for the State of Louisiana. LTTO has helped SBIR/STTR assist to 1,000+ small companies, university faculty & entrepreneurs with 85 Phase I & II awards made to LA small businesses from 2016-2019 – LA has doubled its phase III success rate, securing $35 million in Phase III federal procurement contracts.

LTTO has been recognized for its commitment to assist under-served groups throughout Louisiana including women-, veteran-, and minority- owned small businesses to help prosper their innovative ideas. It has enabled nearly a 20 percent increase in the number of these companies assisted with SBIR/STTR.

The Tibbetts Awards also recognize impactful, creative organizations and individuals who have supported rising tech entrepreneurs, especially in creating success with underrepresented communities. “The SBIR program has brought millions of dollars of non-dilutive funding and created several hundred high tech jobs in Louisiana,” said Roy Keller, Director of the Louisiana Technology Transfer Office.
