Why black, yellow, and white?

Besides being very uncreative, we chose yellow, black, and white because we wanted to resemble our partners, the UK Liberal Democrats. We weren't sure why exactly they chose these colours because the colours had nothing to do with Britian, the EU (which we wanted to join) or anything really! So we emailed the Liberal Democrat Party of the UK (thats right, the party itself.) heres what they had to say:

Dear US Liberal Democrats,

Many thanks for your email I have asked around and apparently the decision to have yellow and black was taken in 1989 during talks for the merger of the SDP and the Liberal Party but no substantial reason seems to have been behind the decision - other than the fact that we couldn't have red (Labour) or blue (Conservative). Hope that's of some help!

Best wishes,

Elizabeth

p.s we launched the bird of freedom as our logo in 1999 but that didn't get a great reception http://scotlandonsunday.scotsman.com/index.cfm?id=783892002

So, apparently these colours aren't a very good choice because they appear sinister to potential voters and theres no REAL reason for the colour scheme. But they looked better to us than the regular Blue, Red, and White scheme. This looks more contemporary to us and we think it appeals more to the eyes....PS we think the freedom bird logo ROCKS!
