BATON ROUGE, LA – LSU Mechanical Engineering Associate Professor Manas Gartia has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

The society, based in London, has 54,000 members across the world and serves as a champion for the chemical sciences. It connects scientists with one another, and society as a whole, so that they can produce their best work and make discoveries and innovation happen. The society publishes new research; develops, recognizes, and celebrates professional capabilities; and supports teachers to inspire future generations of scientists.

“It's a true honor to be named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry,” Gartia said. “This recognition reflects the incredible teamwork of the diverse research group I lead at LSU. Receiving this distinction from the RSC validates the importance of our work in pushing the boundaries of Raman spectroscopy within the field of chemical sciences and biology.”

Gartia holds a Ph.D. in nuclear, plasma, and radiological engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and his research focuses on providing solutions to practical challenges in energy, healthcare, and environmental industry while simultaneously working to advance basic science and engineering.
