Welcome to my English 2000 Website! I am
Jackye, a sophomore at Louisiana State University, home of the 1958,
2003, and 2007 Football National Champion Fighting Tigers. In addition
to being a huge LSU fan (since birth, of course), I am a Construction
Management major from New Orleans, LA, interested in residential and
light commercial renovations and new construction.
Why did I create this website, you ask?
Well, you see, I am enrolled in English 2000. Obviously, right? That's
the title of the page. Anyway, English 2000 at LSU is a writing course,
this specific section focuses on "Citizens in Time." Without all of the
technical terms, we read influential, historical texts (or what our
teacher has decided are such), attempt to understand and interpret them,
then write about them. Since this is a writing class, the idea is to
better our analytical and interpretive skills, as well as improve our
persuasive talents by incorporating quotes and evidence into our
arguments tactfully, of course. Because this class has so much to
do with the evolution of the citizen in a political realm, which
includes aspects of ethics, purpose, order (this list can go on), it is
linked to Political Science 1001, which studies the fundamental issues
of politics. This link between the humanities and the sciences is
somewhat of an experiment, for this is the first semester the adjoined
classes have been offered at LSU (Spring 2008).
So, am I going to just babble on about my personal
and academic life without educating you? No, and I apologize for not
getting to the point sooner. In both classes, we are attempting to draw
a conclusion and formulate an answer to the question, "What does it mean
to be a human being living in society?" With this website, I intend to
allow you to learn the basics of what I have learned in my classes, as
well as learn a bit about me through my own, individual interpretations
of our assignments/readings and my unique techniques of presenting you
with my conclusions.
Before I begin enlightening you, you should start
to ponder the questions I considered before I embarked on my studies.
Put your thinking caps on, and let's get on with it, already!
Who are you?
What is your purpose, personally?
Who are we as a whole?
What is our purpose as mankind?
How do we fulfill our purpose?
What is right?
What is wrong?
What is good?
What is bad?
What determines the difference between these extreme
opposites?
Who says what we should and shouldn't do?
What is order?
How is order achieved?
What is happiness?
When are we happy?
Are we ever happy?
What makes us happy?
