Middle School Scholars
This March, LSU welcomed sixth graders from East Baton Rouge Parish to campus as part of “Sixth Grade Day.” In its seventh year, this year’s “Sixth Grade Day” returned to a in-person experience following virtual learning during the pandemic.
Students who visited the campus saw presentations about the humanities, sciences, engineering, arts, and agriculture. Students experienced the campus through a tour, which consisted of stops to the Museum of Natural Science, Shaver Theater, and the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, where various colleges presented, and students were provided ice cream from the LSU Dairy Store.
Sixth Grade Day is a program of the Capital Area Promise, which launched in September 2018. It is a collaborative effort between LSU, Southern University, Baton Rouge Community College, and EBR Schools. The Capital Area Promise is designed to create more pathways to college and careers; and jumpstart conversations with students and families around college readiness.
