LSU petroleum engineering major Robert “Mitchell” Petras was one of 50 students nationwide
recently selected as an Astronaut Scholar by the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation, and the first petroleum engineering major
in the history of the scholarship, which dates back to 1986, to receive the honor.
Mycologia recently honored LSU Boyd Professor Meredith Blackwell with a Festschrift – an issue of research papers contributed by former students, post doctoral researchers
and colleagues. This is the first Festschrift issued in the journal’s 110-year history.
The LSU Board of Supervisors awarded its latest round of LIFT2 gap funding to help university research make the transition from lab to marketplace.
Among 12 new projects supported through this critical program are new breast cancer
treatments, biodegradeable Mardi Gras beads and oyster-flavored powder.
LSU alumna Erin Kilpatrick, who earned both a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Master of Accountancy from
the LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business, was recently announced as one of the American
Institute of CPAs (AICPA) 2017 Elijah Watt Sells Award winners.

Experience the Clarence John Laughlin Book Collection, which mirrors the eclectic interests of Laughlin, who is best known for the surreal
photographs of architectural decay in his seminal work, "Ghosts Along the Mississippi."
Measuring equal parts fine art, fantasy, the occult and science fiction, this exhibition
is free and open to the public.
