    perform exceptional medical care for small animals, exotic pets, and additional companion animals in a thriving animal

    features electronic charting, digital x-ray, ultrasound, in-house lab, an innovative surgical room, endoscopy, laparoscopic

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

    • Perform thorough assessments to detect and determine the nature of diseases or injuries.

    • Treat sick or injured animals by prescribing medication, setting bones, dressing wounds, performing surgery, or other therapies.
    • Provide preventive care.

    • Collect body tissue, feces, blood, urine, or other body fluids for examination and analysis.

    • Perform laboratory procedures and diagnostic tests.

    • Operate diagnostic equipment, such as radiographic and ultrasound equipment, and interpret the resulting images.

    • Answer client questions and provide education on various aspects of animal care and treatment.

    • Advise animal owners regarding sanitary measures, feeding, and general care necessary to promote the health of their
    pets.

    • Call back/follow-up with clients; recommend medical progress visits when appropriate.

    • Administer anesthetics, perform surgery, and monitor patients during surgery and recovery with the assistance of the technical team.

    • Humanely euthanize animals when it has been mutually agreed upon by the patient’s owner.

    • Efficiently and accurately document care provided.

    • Strictly adhere to all clinic protocols and procedures.

    • Interact with clients and employees in a manner that shows sensitivity, tact and professionalism.

    • Provide guidance and leadership to the healthcare team that will positively influence the level of care and service
    provided to the clients and patients of Langston Animal Hospital

    • Participate in business development as instructed by management and/or ownership.

    • Attend team meetings and other pertinent in-house & external training.

    Skills and Knowledge

    • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, or equivalent, from an accredited university.

    • Valid (licensure) and in good standing licensed veterinarian within the state of Alabama

    • Privilege and DEA licenses.

    • Strong critical thinking skills for complex medical cases, but also enjoy and value the importance of essential preventive
    care.

    • The associate must possess the mental and emotional health required for full utilization of his or her intellectual abilities,
    the exercise of good judgment, the prompt completion of all responsibilities and responsibilities attendant to the diagnosis

    We offer a good base salary with a great % production bonus. Starting salary is dependent on experience and a possible bonus is calculated every three months.     Job Description

    We are a small animal private practice. There are 2 full time veterinarians. We see reptiles, avian, and small mammals in addition to dogs and cats. We also work with several local shelters and humane societies and perform a large volume of surgeries. We have IDEXX in house analyzers, digital radiography including dental, a surgical laser and a therapeutic laser. We have an excellent staff and are a busy clinic. We have 1 licensed veterinary technician and work with our local vet tech school. We provide the best primary care possible and enjoy helping our patients and clients. Our practice is looking to be a site for an Externship for current students. We do not provide housing, but Dr. Knizley will assist student if needed in locating housing.
