Phi Beta Lambda is the collegiate division of the national association, Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda, Inc. (FBLA-PBL). We are the oldest and largest national organization for students preparing for careers in business leadership.  PBL prepares students for "real world" professional experiences.  Members gain the competitive edge for career successes.

The mission of PBL is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs.

More than 250,000 members in 6,000 schools worldwide participate in FBLA-PBL.  PBL accounts for approximately 13,000 of these members.  PBL's programs provide a relevant context for learning, including practical applications for skills and knowledge.  These programs help members connect to their school, their community, and to the business world.

How Can You Benefit From PBL?

Our LSU chapter of PBL is currently seeking more active membership so that our projects and conferences can be more fun and successful.  Here are some of the most common activities that PBL members participate in:

Conferences
Conferences include informative and motivational keynote speakers, career fairs, workshops, competitive events, theme dances, election of officers, and an Awards Ceremony.  The workshops provide business-related and personal educational opportunities, while event competition allows students to gain recognition for their business and leadership knowledge.  Conferences are held both on the state and national levels.

Community Leadership Activities
PBL is about working together.  In keeping with this spirit of cooperation, PBL has formed partnerships with national organizations to provide its members with a range of exciting and innovative programs and activities.  Members gain recognition, financial assistance, and valuable experience through their participation in such programs.  One of the most prominent programs our members partner with is the March of Dimes.  Members are very active in supporting this cause, especially at state and national conferences.

Leadership Positions
Because PBL is a national organization, students have the opportunity to serve as officers on the local, state, regional, and national levels.  Members who aspire to leadership roles gain the experience of running a campaign, going through officer training, and playing a part in the development and direction of the organization for the year.  Officers also lead the chapter in its activities and act as an ambassador the organization.

Social Events
PBL tries to provide several fun activities for its members to participate in throughout the year.  Some of the most popular are our annual Halloween party, eating out at restaurants, tailgating before home football games, and of course conferences.  State and national conferences are a great place to have fun with other students from LSU as well as meet new people from all across the country.

Recruitment Activities
One of the major functions that members perform during the fall semesters is recruiting.  This is the time we really try hard to attract new members and get them involved.  Recruiting is lighter in the spring because during this time we are busy preparing for the state and national leadership conferences.

Fundraising Events
Along with recruiting, fundraising plays a very important role in our organization's activities.  We focus so heavily on raising money in order to alleviate most if not all costs for conferences.  This can allow our conferences to cost a maximum of approximately $60 per person for state and $300 per person for nationals.  Because there is no limit on the amount of funds we can raise, these costs are often eliminated or refunded to members.
