Community Discussion Event Planned

    The LSU SRP Community Engagement Core and the Louisiana Environmental Action Network (LEAN) will host a community discussion about the proposed barge-cleaning facility on River Rd. in Baton Rouge.  Residents and community stakeholders are invited to join an informative discussion about potential community impacts from a proposed minor source air permit for Tubal-Cain Marine Services.

    The meeting will take place on July 7, 2015, 6:30pm – 8:00pm in the Dalton Woods Auditorium located in the Energy, Coast & Environment Building on the campus of Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA 70803. The Energy, Coast & Environment Building is located on the corner of Nicholson Drive and Nicholson Drive Extension next to Campus Federal Credit Union.

    Invited speakers include Wilma Subra (Subra Associates and Science Advisor, LEAN) and Slawo Lomnicki (LSU Superfund Research Center).

    The presentations and discussion will include:

    What are the proposed activities?
    What types of chemicals does the permit allow to be cleaned from barges?
    What are the potential environmental and human health impacts of the emissions?
    What are the potential impacts on the local community and quality of life?
    How will the waste water be managed?
    How can the local community be involved in the decision making process?

    The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) will hold a public meeting to discuss the permit application on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, beginning at 6:00 p.m., in the Oliver Pollock room of the Galvez Building, 602 N. 5th St, Baton Rouge, LA 70802. During the hearing, all interested persons will have an opportunity to present oral statements, views, recommendations, opinions and information on the proposed permit.
