Teaching Certification

Certification Through the GeauxTeach Program

All students must pass Praxis I and Praxis II tests prior to graduation in order to receive a degree and certification.

Praxis I (Pre-Professional Skills Tests in Reading, Writing, & Math):

A verified ACT composite score of 22 or greater, or a combined verbal and math score of 1030 on SAT, will waive Praxis I exam requirements. Students must have valid ACT/SAT scores or passing Praxis I scores prior to registering for EDCI 3550, Classroom Interactions.

Praxis II- Principles of Learning and Teaching: Grades 7–12 test (5624) and at least one Secondary Education subject-specific Content Knowledge test:

Biology: Content Knowledge (5235)

Chemistry: Content Knowledge (5245)

Mathematics: Content Knowledge (5161)

Physics: Content Knowledge (5265)

Prior to Apprentice Teaching, Secondary Education teacher candidates must pass the Praxis II PLT and Content Knowledge exams. The recommendation is for students to take these tests shortly after completing EDCI 3550, Classroom Interactions.  Students must have passing scores for both exams submitted to LSU prior to registering for EDCI 4006, Apprentice Teaching.

Register for the test through ETS

All Praxis tests are delivered by computer. Some are offered continuously and others are offered within specific testing windows. Refer to the ETS website for questions about registration, testing centers, and subject specific dates.
